Book Festival Block Party Deemed Successful

SALISBURY, Md. — Wicomico Public Library’s (WCP) Book Festival Block Party turned the downtown area into a reading celebration as children from all over the county celebrated literacy for all ages. Adults and children of all ages explored the majestic waterfront area where music, community organizations, and eateries filled the streets.

Which book to choose? A young boy reads over one of the many books available at the Eastern Shore Reading Council’s free book table at the Salisbury Book Festival Block Party hosted adjacent to the Wicomico Public Library.

The Eastern Shore Reading Council (ESRC), adjacent to children’s bouncy house, was a regular stop for many curious, young readers. ESRC volunteers helped many young readers and parents choose a free book to promote children’s literacy.

“This was a great event to share the love of reading with the many people who stopped by our table today,” Eastern Shore Reading Council volunteer Brian Cook stated during the event. “We had the opportunity to interact with many parents and students as we helped guide them on some age appropriate books to begin reading at home or continue reading home. At the (Eastern Shore) Reading Council, our goal is to promote literacy in children as it’s an essential skill in their development.”

The Eastern Shore Reading Council is nonprofit organization promoting literacy on the Lower Eastern Shore (Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties). Individuals interested in joining or volunteering may contact Lizanne Wallace via email at liwallace@thesalisburyschool.org
